Our Beers

Enjoy a crisp, clean lager or ale. Our beers are crafted with high quality ingredients, meticulous technique, and resolute commitment to excellence.

Part of what makes Cheluna beer so good is, of course, our beer recipes, which have been refined and practiced for almost 30 years with great attention to detail.

We hope that you enjoy your Cheluna ‘chela’ (or beer), and can taste the love, patience, and dedication that goes into every keg, glass, and growler. Javi does not release a beer before its time!

Brewing Beer at Cheluna

About

We draw inspiration from México’s rich tradition of fermented beverages. The indigenous people of México were masters of fermentation, producing Mezcal and Pulque as far back as 400 BC.

Beer (European lagers) were first brewed on the continent by Spanish settlers in the 1500s. In the 1800s, during the reign of Emperor Maximilian, a prince from the Austrian Hapsburg monarchy, Austrian and German imigrants introduced their style of brewing to México. The brewing of lagers, Mexican lagers is a persistant legacy of México’s European influences.

Stop by and check out our beautiful ofrenda, or our Día de los Muertos altar, lovingly created by Carmen cada año. We welcome you to add small photos (smaller than 4x6) of departed loved ones (we will laminate them before placing on the altar, save + store them + place them on our altar every year)

Our ofrenda is located directly below our stunning Juls Mendoza xoloitzcuintli, or xolo, mural. Xolo dogs are known to have existed for over 3,000 years, and are thought to have been buried with their owners to act as guides to the afterlife, so under our Xolo mural is the perfect place for our ofrenda.

Some key ofrenda elements:

photos of departed loved ones
favorite food and drink of loved ones
pan de muerto for returning souls to eat
papel picado representing the fragility of life
calaveras, or sugar skulls representing the circle of life
water for returning souls to drink
candles to provide light to guide returning souls
cempasúchil (marigolds) whose fragrance attracts returning souls to the altar
a small pile of salt representing purification

You can enjoy a $5 pint of our deliciously balanced La Morena Märzenbier while admiring our ofrenda, and if you ask for it to walk with make sure to head to the Stanley common area to also check out the much more elaborate and visually mesmerizing @norbertomojardin

Mil gracias a Carmen for bringing her beautiful culture + creative touch cada año to help us celebrate Día de los Muertos 💜🧡💜🧡💜🧡💜

Today we celebrate and honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day, and want to take this opportunity to introduce Lyle 🙌🏽

Ya’at’eeh (hello), my name is Lyle Smith. I’m from the Diné (Navajo) Nation in New Mexico. I found my love of craft beer while living in the Pacific Northwest where I lived before relocating to Colorado with my wife Kat. My background is in engineering and I’m now finishing up my brewing science education + brewing at Cheluna.

Be sure to say hello to Lyle when you see him; we consider ourselves as super lucky to have Lyle as part of our team 🍻
